Evensong is the true story of two people finding a new passion later in life.
After raising four children, working in corporate America, and establishing a successful wine business and a political career, Brooks and Kate Firestone were ready to join forces for a new challenge. Their amateur singing career in a number of different choral groups led them around the world, from Santa Barbara to the London Royal Albert Hall, the Vatican, and the Mormon Tabernacle at a time of life which many people think should be leisurely. Their experiences brought them joy, hard work, a tremendous sense of accomplishment, and a shared passion that enriched their lives together.
"Nothing gives me greater joy than hearing of folk discovering music within themselves. Most people find it when they are young, but discovery at a late age is even more magical. So you can imagine my delight when I heard from Brooks of his passionate enthusiasm for singing. He was like a man who has fallen in love for the first time; a born again musician you might say. And what joy choral singing has given him and the lovely Kate!" — George Martin, Beatles Producer
"As a choir member before my professional career, I very much enjoyed the story of Brooks' great pleasure in evolving into a singer late in life, and of his many choral adventures." — David Crosby, Member of Crosby, Stills, and Nash
"Brooks describes the dramatization and enhancement of worship by choral singing very well. It is a delight to read of his pleasure in church and cathedral music." — Reverend Gethin Hughes, retired Episcopal Bishop of San Diego
"I have known Brooks as a businessman, rancher, politician, and family man. Now it is a great pleasure to hear of his adventures and excitement about music and singing." — Jimmy Messina, singer and musician of Loggins and Messina
